What Type of Spirituality are You? Part 3

by Elia Cardenas, DMin, Associate Director

Last month, at our Charism Carrier gathering, we participated in an activity designed to help us explore our spirituality, based on the book Soul Types, on the cognitive functions of thinking. The engaging activity helped us tap into a tangible aspect of our lives as religious sisters, associates, and partners in mission, as we develop our relationship with God, seeking meaning and fulfillment in what we do and are passionate about.

Many of us have experienced or can relate to the paths we revised:

  • The thinking spirituality, which is about learning or experiencing God through knowledge

  • The relational or feeling spirituality, which is about gathering and liking to experience God in a prayer, devotion, and community, or a structural ambience

  • Contemplative or intuitive spirituality is about seeking union with God and experience God in solitude and silence.

  • The crusader, or one who sensing spirituality, is about having a passion for social justice and social concerns, focusing on doing good works and showing love in action.

To continue learning about your spirituality, we invite you to explore practices that bring you peacefulness, joy, insight, and freedom to your heart, as they can lead to a deeper spiritual connection with God. Our spirituality will support us during our times of struggle, finding strength in the One who sustains us. Our spirituality may evolve as we continue our soul-searching and spiritual journey, even though we currently have a preferred style of spiritual practices and form of prayer that is more compatible with our current selves.

We hope that you continue your transformational journey into loving God and knowing yourself.
