What Type of Spirituality Are You?

by Elia Cardenas, DMin, Associate Director

In everything we do, the glimpses of our congregational charisms reflect our spiritual life, drawing us even more to the heart of God. As an associate, I carry the charism of the congregation in many aspects of my life. The founding mother of the congregation to which I am associated, Sr. Leonor Vaqueriza, invited us to "contemplate and give to others what has been contemplated," embodying the gospel through our actions, activities, prayers, and even in taking a walk, listening, or accompanying others. Our congregational charism and our actions are expressed in various types of spirituality, and sometimes we come to know God through our feelings or heart, through our learning experiences, or our thoughts. Everything is revealed concretely, through actions, or in the abstract as a sacred or mystical experience.

Many of us have experienced God in different ways, but sometimes we have preferred to find God through contemplation or in nature. In the spiritual life, there is no "one size fits all" approach. Would you like to explore what type of spirituality you have or feel attracted to? Join us next month at our Charism Carrier Virtual Gathering to discover it in an objective way.

This virtual program free and is open to all Charism Carriers (associates, affiliates, co-members, etc.). Registration is required.

Two options are available to assist with your schedule and time zone. These sessions are identical.

The experience of God varies deeply from person to person, shaped by culture, faith tradition, personal journey, and life events. Here are some of the many ways people experience God:

1. Through Prayer and Worship

Many feel God's presence during prayer, worship, or meditation — a sense of peace, connection, or divine communication.

Some describe it as a still small voice, a deep knowing, or overwhelming love.

2. In Times of Suffering or Crisis

In moments of pain, loss, or hardship, people often experience God's comfort or strength.

Others say God becomes real to them when everything else falls apart providing hope or unexpected support.
