A Moment of Grace

Updated: May 30

by Elia Cárdenas, D.Min, Associate Director

We are living in a moment of grace during this Easter season, and our church finds itself transpiring in the midst of historical events with the fast conclave election of Pope Leo XIV, just a few days after our beloved Pope Francis was taken to his earthly rest at Santa Maria Maggiore.

While this month, we celebrate all the mothers and those with a motherly heart, it is also a month of prayer dedicated to Mary, our heavenly Mother and Mother of Jesus Christ. This meaningful tradition of our faith originated in Rome in the late 18th century and is widespread around the globe. When we pray the rosary with a mindful spirit, this prayer calms our restless hearts and brings peace to our families, congregations, communities, and surroundings.

So, I reflect and imagine how all these rosary prayers and petitions had an impact on the election of a new Pope with the aid of the Spirit to bring grace and blessing to our wounded world. Some of us may believe we can direct our time and history, but I have the certainty that this is God's time, and our prayers are being heard and creating invisible ripples of grace through the world. It is wonderful to have the certainty that God, who has the heart of a mother and cares for their children, is constantly present in our midst.

As we await Pentecost, let us continue praying for peace among us and in every corner of the earth!
