Vocation and the unique calling of an associate

by Elia Cardenas, D.Min, Associate Director

As we begin a New Year, may God's grace grant us new beginnings and opportunities in life.

For this new year, we have prepared a themed program that will address significant aspects of the life and mission of a Charism Carrier.  These themes will be part of the Leadership Collaborative's quarterly offerings and will also be featured in the newsletter, showcasing the team's diverse voices and perspectives. Today, we will explore some details of our unique calling, which involves specific aspects of the Congregational Charism we carry, becoming partners with the religious sisters in witnessing Christ's love in the world as we foster, over time, deep spiritual growth in our lives. In other words, as we are committed and are modelled, we bring the congregational founding charism as our own heritage out into the world in the cotidiano (ordinary) of our daily lives. In the uniqueness of our call, by being faithful to the charism and spirituality we have freely embraced, we live the mission of the church, which allows us to bring Christ to all people.

Here are some key aspects of our Calling:

  • Vocation: It's considered a true calling (from Latin vocare, "to call"), an invitation from God to live a life of purpose within a specific Congregational Charism.

  • Charism and Mission: As associates and partners in mission, we feel drawn to the unique founding spirit of the Congregational Charism and Mission.

  • Deeper Relationship with God and the Congregation: It is our desire for a closer bond with God and the religious community, nurturing our baptismal promises through shared charisma and spirituality.

  • Living the Gospel: As associates and partners in mission, we express the uniqueness of our call by integrating the congregation's values (charisma, prayer, service, justice) into our everyday lives, work, community, and families.

  • Congregational Partnership: We become companions to religious life as we share our faith through prayer, celebrations, and community activities.
