The program planning committee for HOPE 2027, a global gathering of Catholic sisters under 65 years old, has announced the theme for next year’s event: Ubuntu: Wholeness and Transformation.
Ubuntu, a term used in many cultures in Africa, is often translated as “I am because we are.” It is a philosophy of transformation, of moving from the singular “I am” to the communal and global “we are.” It is a way of being that is rooted in both personal and global wholeness.
“I am deeply moved by this theme, for it speaks to the wholeness we seek and to the transformation that becomes possible when the wisdom of Ubuntu shapes the way we walk this path together,” said Romina Sapinoso, SC, Leadership Collaborative Associate Director and HOPE 2027 convener. “The richness of the theme gives us so much to unpack and journey with during our days together.”
The HOPE gatherings, which began in Chicago in January 2024, are a global witness to the transformative power of relationships. The multi-day event in January 2027 will bring sisters from around the world to cultivate wholeness, to seek healing, and to embrace transformation – TOGETHER.
Registration for HOPE 2027 is now open for Catholic sisters under 65 years old. The hybrid event will be January 12 – 17, 2027 in Nairobi. Space is limited.
